Details

The church of Nossa Senhora do Rosário is a 15th century church in the city of Cidade Velha, on the island of Santiago, Cape Verde. It is located northwest of the town, next to the right bank of the Ribeira Grande de Santiago river.
The historic center of the Old Town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since June 2009.

This Manueline-style chapel constitutes the founding element of this building. The key to its vault has a seal that represents the cross of the Portuguese crown.
The church, the main part of which has been built since 1495, being the building in use the longest of Cape Verde, is located on a promontory, having been built in honor of Our Lady of the Rosary patron saint of black men.
