The church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, one of the oldest churches in Cape Verde, was built between 1466 and 1470, after probably establishing small oratories, after the arrival of the first settlers in 1462, with Infante D. Fernando being responsible for its materialization.
It was the first to be built of stone and lime, it served as an oratory for the noble inhabitants based in the São Pedro neighborhood. She was a favorite among morgues for her pious donations.
